Some offer fantastic watersports options like scuba-diving and snorkelling as well as wakeboarding, waterskiing, jetskiing and parasailing. For beauty and comfort combined head to Koukounaries, a long sandy stretch of organised beach fringed by luscious pine forests. For remote options that are well off the beaten track, head to the quiet cove of Little Aselinos (accessible by 4x4 car only or by boat) or the sandy Mandraki.
Koukounaries
Where: On the southwestern coast of Skiathos, 16km from Skiathos town.
Description: arguably the most famous beach on Skiathos, it is also dubbed the ‘Golden Sun’ for its glimmering sand that leads into turquoise waters. Koukounaries is also characterised by a dense pine forest which lines the entire stretch of beach.
Access: Easy access by car or bus.
Aselinos
Where: on the northern coast approximately 13km from Skiathos town.
Description: less busy than other beaches on Skiathos because it is harder to reach, Aselinos is a hidden gem on the island. Dramatic crags covered in luscious trees emerge from the water and overlook the sandy stretch. There are a few organised deckchairs on the beach as well as a tavern nearby.
Access: slightly challenging by boat or by dirt road (4x4 recommended).
Agia Eleni
Where: on the western side of the island, 13km from the main town and just 1km from Koukounaries.
Description: A small, sandy cove with sparkling shallow waters and few organised facilities. It is a beautiful spot to spend the entire day, and watching the sunset from Agia Eleni is breath-taking.
Access: easy, by car or bus.
