The Area

Azalea sits on the south coast of Skiathos just a few minutes' walk from a secluded sandy beach. The island is known for the quality of its beaches, and there are many idyllic options nearby, including those of Paraskevi, Troulos and Koukounaries.

Skiathos Town, the island’s capital, is a bustling centre that’s well worth a visit or two. Its pretty, well-maintained maze of pedestrianised streets in the old centre offers a bit of something for everyone, including bars, tavernas, shops and, if you walk to the top of town, delightful views. Colourful flowering plants adorn white-washed walls and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Down near the port is the Papadiamantis House Museum, the former home of the island’s favourite son, the late 19th and early 20th century novelist and poet Alexandros Papadiamantis.

Blessed with numerous (over 50), well-organised sandy beaches bathed by transparent aquamarine waters, Skiathos is perfect for anyone who enjoys lounging by sea for days on end. In the summer months, the most popular beaches can get very busy but if you head to the more remote parts of the south and west coasts, it is possible to find plenty of space.

Sights worth seeing on Skiathos include the remains of the dramatically positioned castle. Sitting on the northern tip of the island, it was built to protect the populace of Skiathos in times of invasion and was a town in its own right, as demonstrated by the presence of three churches. The views are breathtaking, as are the dramatic cliffs that tumble into the sea. And if you’re hot after exploring the castle, you can head down to the beach below for a swim.

We had the best holiday ever at Azalea. The fabulous outdoor settings were so comfortable and the amazing view was ever present. We were utterly spoiled by the wonderful staff in an amazingly beautiful villa - and we didn't have to stir as the food was divine. What a marvellous cook - nothing was too much trouble.

If I could give Azalea and the villa staff 10 out of 5 stars, I absolutely would. Honestly, the grounds, the pool area, the patio were every bit as beautiful, maybe even more so, than the online pictures - as was the beach section assigned to Azalea. The lovely staff was outstanding - attentive, welcoming, and professional. We are still full from the fabulous meals prepared by the villa's cook. Truly, Azalea provided for the most wonderful of holidays to be enjoyed by our family.

Our experience at Azalea was the best holiday we have had. Unbelievable service. Every detail thought out and perfection all around. The journey to the beach isn’t for the elderly or people who have difficulties, however for those who are able it’s brilliant.
