The Area
Odyssea sits on the high cliffs of Kefalonia's south coast, close to a great many beaches, including the one at Ai Helis, which is a 10-to-15-minute walk away. Also within easy walking distance are a selection of tavernas.
Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands but still easy to discover in a week (even the northernmost tip, with the lovely harbour village of Fiskardo, is only 80 minutes' drive). This is great news, as there's so much to discover, not least in terms of beaches, of which there are great many.
The buzzing island capital, Argostoli is an easy drive away from Odyssea and it's definitely worth spending some time there, not least for its pleasant pedestrianised streets flanked by tavernas, cafés and shops, but also for its market and its museums, one dedicated to archaeology, the other to folklore.
Of historical note is the Venetian Castle of St George, which offers insights into the island's past, while keen walkers will enjoy exploring Mount Ainos, which rises to over 1,600m. Needless to say, the views are unforgettable and well worth the trek.
Just 4km east of Kefalonia is the island of Ithaca and it's easy to spend a day there, thanks to the frequent crossings from the port of Sami.

From the moment the gates to Odyssea opened, we were in heaven. Actually, even before we arrived, I had been in communication with the housekeeper talking about what kinds of foods we would like and what she would prepare for us. As soon as we landed in Kefalonia, she texted that she had seen our plane land. We already felt so welcomed! Odyssea took our breath away! The most gorgeous location. We were up early every morning to see the sunrises and eagerly waited each evening for the sunsets. Both the villa and the pool were gorgeous, and each bedroom was unique and beautiful. Everyone loved the different décor of their rooms. We spent hours sitting in the outside areas and later at night, in the living room, and everything was so comfortable. And decorated so beautifully. It all exceeded what even the gorgeous photos showed! What made our time at Odyssea even more wonderful and memorable was the housekeeper and her team. Instantly, she made us feel so welcomed on her island and as a part of her family - and we felt the same. We all loved her and the others! Her breakfasts were the highlight of our day. We oohed and aahed at every new dish she brought to the table. We all are now back home dreaming of those breakfasts, the fresh air and sun and all the laughter. We also made some dinners with her which were wonderful and delicious and which we are trying to recreate at home. What more can I say? My family of 10 young people in their 20s fell in love with Greece on this trip and are constantly texting me about what they miss. So, we are already planning our trip for 2025. Thank you so much for memories we will have forever!
