The Area

Felicia is located just to the west of buzzing Argostoli, the capital of Kefalonia, and looks out over the eponymous gulf towards the Paliki peninsula.

Just a five-minute drive away, Argostoli is well worth spending time in, not only for its pleasant pedestrianised streets flanked by tavernas, cafés and shops, but also for its market and its museums (one dedicated to the island's archaeology, the other to folklore). It is possible to walk to town from Felicia in about 20 minutes via a track across the wooded hills.

Apart from the little beaches at the bottom of the garden, there are several others nearby, including those of Kalamia, Gradakia, Paliostafida and Makris Gialos, all around five minutes away by car. A great many other beaches can be found on the south and west coasts. Of particular beauty is the stretch of white sand at Myrtos.

Kefalonia is the largest of the Ionian Islands but still easy to discover in a week (even the northernmost tip, with the lovely harbour village of Fiskardo, is only an hour away).

Of historical note is the Venetian Castle of St George, which offers insights into the island's past, while keen walkers will enjoy exploring Kefalonia's many walking routes, including the one up to the summit of Mount Ainos, which rises to over 1,600m. Needless to say, the views are unforgettable and well worth the trek.

Just 4km east of Kefalonia is the island of Ithaca and it's easy to spend a day there, thanks to the frequent crossings from the port of Sami.

Nearest tavernas, bars, shops and amenities:

there are a couple of tavernas within a 10-minute walk; There's a good selection of shops and other amenities in Argostoli (see above) or the village of Lassi (2km-1.2miles-4mins)

Felicia is one of the the nicest villas we have stayed in. It's private but close to town; big pool; multiple sitting areas; easy access to beach; immaculate - furnishings are simple but elegant; beautiful views; well-stocked kitchen; delightful staff. We loved it all and did not want to leave.

KE July 2024

We would return to Felicia for its location, the view, the outside space, the tennis court and the pool. And the housekeeper was a star.
