Corte Gea sits at the end of a country lane in a fabulously tranquil setting, just over 2km outside charming Carovigno. Apart from its historic centre (complete with 15th-century castle), the town offers a great selection of bars, cafés, restaurants, pizzerie and shops. 11km north, meanwhile, is Ostuni, a beautifully restored mediaeval and baroque town with stunning panoramic views and much to discover.
If you're looking for beaches, the Adriatic coast has plenty of options, as well as some well recommended lidos. A drive of around 20 minutes will take you to a series of sandy bays and the long sandy beaches of the Torre Guaceto nature reserve.
The Valle d'Itria is probably best known for its trulli, and nowhere are these more in evidence than in the picture-postcard UNESCO town of Alberobello. Locorotondo, Cisternino, Martina Franca and Ceglie Messapica are also well worth a visit for their picture-perfect historic centres, their gastronomic specialities and their inimitable traditions.
Further afield, Lecce, Gallipoli, Otranto and Monopoli are justly famous towns waiting for you to unlock their secrets.
