At Barbanichos, timeless panoramas take in the richly verdant slopes and the sparkling blue sea of northeast Corfu. Whispering olive trees cocoon the gardens in a gentle hush, peace reigns supreme and life is deliciously carefree. The summery buzz of the coast below is at hand, but so alluring are the simple, lazy pleasures on offer at Barbanichos, that you may have little inclination to leave the confines of your hillside hideaway.

The Area
Barbanichos sits in a fabulously panoramic position in the verdant hills above the beach and tavernas of Agni Bay, which is less than 10 minutes away. Also close by is Kalami, with its beach, shops, tavernas and boat hire suppliers. One of Corfu's loveliest seafront villages it is home to the famous White House, once the residence of the writer Lawrence Durrell, now a seafront restaurant and bar where you can sit and imagine James Bond stopping in for a Vodka Martini (parts of For Your Eyes Only were filmed there).
There are numerous other beaches with tavernas nearby, including those at Kerasia, Nissaki and Aghios Stefanos. For a larger selection of bars, tavernas and shops (or for a spot of nightlife) bustling Kassiopi is just a 15-minute drive away.
Heading south, meanwhile, charming Corfu Town with its fortifications and the historic labyrinth of streets is about 50 minutes' drive and well worth spending a day or two exploring.
If you're travelling with kids, there are plenty of stimulating activities and attractions for children within easy reach.

What stood out about Barbanichos was its traditional construction, the gardens, the pool and the view. We would return.
