At Marea, bright elegant interiors spill out onto a long shady verandah from where you may happily survey emerald green lawns and the tempting turquoise sea. These two elements are linked via a path leading from the garden down to a glorious sandy beach, winner of successive Blue Flag awards. All in all, an exemplary family summer house.

The Area
Marea is situated just a few miles from Capo Passero, whose lighthouse signals Italy’s southernmost point – considerably further south than Tunis! The coast is almost entirely given over to long sandy beaches, the very same ones landed on by British and Canadian forces during Operation Huskey in the 2nd World War. Just to the west is the port of Pozzallo, from where, in just 90mins by hydrofoil, it is possible to get to Malta. To the north is the splendid Baroque town of Noto, Syracuse, once the mightiest city in Magna Graecia and Vendicari Nature Reserve, home to beautiful unspoilt beaches, migrating flamingos and nesting turtles. Less than an hour's drive to the west are the other splendid towns of the Val di Noto UNESCO Heritage Site, Modica and Scicli, and, a little further afield, Ragusa.
The beaches in the area of Pozzallo and Ispica (including the one right below the villa) have received several consecutive "Bandiere Blu", attesting to the cleanliness of the water and their general ecological excellence.

DiscoverPrivate boat charters in Southeast Sicily
From here until the southeasternmost tip of Sicily, the coastline is an uninterrupted stretch of sandy beach, dotted with picturesque little resort towns, including Punta Secca (Inspector Montalbano's home), Marina di Ragusa, Donnalucata, Cava d'Aliga, Sampieri and Marina di Modica. The last strip, made up of several miles of dunes, is where the Allied forces landed in the 2nd World War. At the southernmost tip of Sicily is Isola Delle Correnti, offering an almost African scenario. Indeed, here we are considerably further south than Tunis.Just around the southeastern tip and heading north up the east coast, are the beaches of Marzamemi, San Lorenzo and Vendicari Nature Reserve. The reserve's salt water lagoons and varieties of flora offer the ideal habitat for a wide range of fauna, including nesting turtles and migrating flamingos.Continuing up the east coast, between Vendicari and the historic Greek town of Syracuse, are the popular sandy beaches of Marina di Noto, Calabernado, Marina di Avola, Gelsomineto, Fontane Bianche and Arenella.
DiscoverWine tastings in Southeast Sicily
Nero D’Avola, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Frappato, Syrah and Moscato Bianco are just a few of the grape varieties cultivated in the Noto area, and we heartily recommend a vineyard visit during your stay. We know the right people and the most prestigious wineries in the area, and we’d be delighted to arrange a chauffeured wine tasting tour with lunch for you.

Amazing villa with the close ocean, you can hear the waves at night. Loved every minute of it. The kids loved the beach at the villa's doorstep.

Marea's garden and view and proximity to the beach is awesome. The housekeeper, who also cooked for us on three occasions is lovely. Her cooking is amazing and she is very friendly and accommodating.
