The Area

Donnafucale sits in the gentle countryside south of the baroque UNESCO World Heritage town of Noto and just few kilometres west of the unspoilt beauty and beaches of Vendicari Nature Reserve in the southeast of Sicily.

The coastline around Italy's southeasternmost point is flanked by mile upon mile of sandy beaches, many of which are a short drive from Donnafucale. Also close by are the other gorgeous UNESCO World Heritage towns of Modica, Ragusa and Scicli.

Slightly further afield, but highly recommended, is Syracuse, once the mightiest city in Magna Graecia. Its archaeological site and island centre, Ortigia, are fascinating.

Last but not least, If hiking in the hills is your thing, then there is some spectacular scenery to explore in the rushing streams and waterfalls of the Cassibile gorge and the Paleolithic burial sites in the dramatic valley of Pantalica.

From here until the southeasternmost tip of Sicily, the coastline is an uninterrupted stretch of sandy beach, dotted with picturesque little resort towns, including Punta Secca (Inspector Montalbano's home), Marina di Ragusa, Donnalucata, Cava d'Aliga, Sampieri and Marina di Modica. The last strip, made up of several miles of dunes, is where the Allied forces landed in the 2nd World War. At the southernmost tip of Sicily is Isola Delle Correnti, offering an almost African scenario. Indeed, here we are considerably further south than Tunis.Just around the southeastern tip and heading north up the east coast, are the beaches of Marzamemi, San Lorenzo and Vendicari Nature Reserve. The reserve's salt water lagoons and varieties of flora offer the ideal habitat for a wide range of fauna, including nesting turtles and migrating flamingos.Continuing up the east coast, between Vendicari and the historic Greek town of Syracuse, are the popular sandy beaches of Marina di Noto, Calabernado, Marina di Avola, Gelsomineto, Fontane Bianche and Arenella.

Donnafucale is an exceptional property both inside and out. It was very thoughtfully furnished and everything was top quality. We had an all-round fantastic holiday. Nobody wanted to leave and it was value for money.

IO September 2024

Our stay at Donnafucale was magical, special, dreamy! The villa was better than in the pictures. It is a dream house. The grounds, the serenity of the place, the pool, the kitchen, the al fresco area, the bedrooms, the AC in them. And specially the staff, from the lovely lady who cooked for us one night to the cleaning lady who each day came to the house and help with everything. Thanks for a special holiday - I will not look elsewhere when renting again.

Carlos Zambrano August 2024

Donnafucale was an absolute slice of paradise. We loved the quiet, tranquil environment of the countryside and getting to spend so much time outdoors in all the special gathering areas, especially watching the sunset over the pool.

P.L. October 2023

Exceptional standard of service from all concerned, and the accommodation was a cut above anything we have stayed in before.

V.G. July 2023

Every aspect of the villa holiday was excellent. Everything was done to make the entire process easy and to the highest standard. The villa itself was absolutely wonderful.
