The Area

Antika is located on the east coast of Panarea, midway between San Pietro, the main village, and the beach of Cala Zimmari.

San Pietro, with its restaurants, shops, cafés and port, is around 15 minutes walk from the villa (or 3 minutes' drive), while the village of Drauto, which has a restaurant, is about 5 minutes away on foot. While there are no cars allowed on Panarea, electric taxis and golf buggies are available for all journeys around the island.

The aforementioned Cala Zimmari is a 10-minute walk away, and if you continue for another 10 minutes you'll come to the southern tip of the island, Punta Milazzese, a promontory that's home to the remains of a Bronze Age village. Down below is Cala Junco, a pebbly inlet with crystalline transparent waters, and a couple of other lovely coves.

If you wish to go for a good hike (and we recommend you do), a path from the southern edge of San Pietro leads up to Panarea's highest peak, Punta del Corvo, which, at 421m, offers sublime views across the archipelago and the Tyrrhenian. From there you can either head north or south and complete a very satisfying circuit with a refreshing swim in the sea.

Panarea is the second smallest and the most fashionable of Aeolian Islands, and it is an ideal point from which to discover the entire archipelago, be it by boat, hydrofoil or helicopter.

In the summer months Panarea offers a wide selection of good restaurants, bars with stunning terraces, discos and chic boutiques. Diving, walking and fishing are amongst the most popular pursuits.

Regular hydrofoil and ferry services link Panarea to Palermo, Milazzo and Naples, but the most exciting and speediest way to reach the island is by helicopter.

Arrive by hydrofoil from Milazzo (2hrs) or Palermo (5hrs ), private boat, helicopter or ferry.

Nearest beaches:

Drauto - 5mins walk; Cala Zimmari - 10mins walk; Cala Junco - 20mins walk

San Pietro (port and a good selection of cafés, shops, bars and restaurants):

15mins walk or approx 3mins drive (by buggy)

Private boat charters in East Sicily

The coastline between Taormina and Catania is one of the most dramatic and idyllic in Sicily, thanks to its sandy-pebbly coves, its sea stacks and its transparent waters. The best way to explore it is by boat, and we can arrange a wide variety of full-day, half-day and sunset trips. From your port of departure, you'll head to the lovely fishing villages dotting the coast, such as Aci Trezza and Aci Castello, before sailing north towards the Bay of Giardini Naxos below Capo Taormina. Once there, your skipper will drop anchor so that you can enjoy an unforgettable swim under the awesome gaze of Mount Etna. If you can tear yourselves away from this majestic setting, your trip will continue north to the gorgeous Bay of Isola Bella, one of Sicily's most evocative and picturesque sections of coastline, where lush vegetation imbues the brilliant blue water of the Grotta Azzurra with an emerald green hue.

Culinary experiences in West Sicily

The west of Sicily is a great destination for food lovers. Inland, the scenery is dominated by vast expanses of vineyards and olive groves, and some of Sicily's best wines – for example those of the Alcamo, Trapani, Erice and Marsala areas - and olive oils are produced in this corner of the island. Restaurant menus offer a fabulous array of fresh fish and seafood dishes. Fish cous cous is one of the signature dishes, a tradition that is celebrated every September at San Vito’s international Cous Cous Fest. Other stand-out specialities include busiate al pesto trapanese - a homemade pasta served with a pesto of tomatoes, garlic, almonds and basil - and spaghetti alla bottarga - salt-cured tuna fish roe grated on steaming pasta.

We had a relaxing, effortless, magical and peaceful stay at Antika. What stood out was the garden setting, the pool area and the outdoor dining facilities (terraces and outdoor kitchens with pizza oven, outdoor crockery and fridges). We liked the separate sleeping accommodation, which was perfect for 6 adults. The in-villa chef was not just a superb cook but a fount of advice with immaculate English.

Antika is just so amazing - absolutely perfect for our extended family. The gardens and surroundings too were so, so beautiful. What stood out was the beautiful design, the architecture, the interiors, and the wonderful, wonderful staff. Thank you for such a wonderful trip.

It's a fantastic compound and the island was spectacular and charming. In terms of the compound, the houses were very well decorated in an elegant, understated way - very peaceful. The grounds, views, and pool were all beautiful. We also really appreciated that we could walk to town and that there were so many great restaurants to choose from once we were there.
