The Area
Kolokithi Bay sits above the sea about half way up the east coast of Alonissos. The seafront tavernas, amenities and harbour of Steni Vala are a 10 to 15-minute drive (depending on whether you take a track or the coast road) or a 30-minute walk up the coast. The island's main port, Patitiri, and the historic capital, Alonissos Town, are just a 20-minute drive away.
Despite its diminutive size, 14km long and 4km wide, Alonissos has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to beaches. Arguably the best ones are to be found along the east coast and on the southern tip. One such, just a 20-minute drive north of Kolokithi Bay, is Agios Dimitrios, whose splendid white sands and intense blue waters are irresistible. The north of the island also boasts some idyllic coves and beaches but most of these are only accessible by boat: an excellent reason to rent one for your stay.
Alonissos, its surrounding waters and minor islands, including Peristera, Kyra Panagia, Gioura, Psathoura, Piperi and Skantzoura, form the Alonissos Marine Park, the largest of its kind in Europe. Established in 1992, its 2,250km2 is home to a fascinating variety of flora, fauna, marine life (including Mediterranean monk seals) and unspoilt natural beauty.
Finally, just across the water, is Alonissos's sister Sporades Island, Skopelos, which is highly recommended and easy to get to.

The housekeeper at Kolokithi Bay is exceptional!

Kolokithi Bay is a fabulous property - outstanding in all respects and breathtaking in many. Quite simply delightful. The housekeeper and cook is an absolute gem - very engaging, friendly and helpful, she also strikes a wonderful balance of mixing all those attributes with discretion.

Kolokithi Bay is the most wonderful villa and the lady who cleaned and cooked was a delight. This was our first trip to the Sporades Islands and truthfully we can't say anything other than it was amazing.

We were really expecting to arrive at Kolokithi Bay and for it not to live up to the beautiful photographs. But we were amazed that the villa and garden actually looked better in real life. We thought we would explore a lot more than we did but the villa was so nice we stayed there a lot. The housekeeper was absolutely amazing and an excellent cook.
