Cocooned in the vibrantly verdant, pine-aromatic woods of Lefkada's northwest coast, and yet just a couple of minutes' stroll from the irresistible azure waters of the Ionian Sea below, Madreterra has few rivals when it comes to location. This magnificence is matched by the property's generously proportioned interiors, and by its extensive, hedonistically equipped wrap-around terraces.

The Area
Madreterra is situated on the west coast of Lefkada, just below the village of Kalimitsi and a few kilometres south of Agios Nikitas, both of which have a few shops and some good tavernas. A couple of minutes' stroll below Madreterra is a long stretch of wonderful beach, which runs north and south to join up with the beaches of Kathisma and Megali Petra respectively. There are a couple of bars serving snacks and refreshments along the beach below the property. A selection of other sandy beaches can be reached within a 15-minute drive, while a 40-minute drive to the north will take you to the capital, Lefkada Town, which has a vibrant buzz about it in the summer, thanks to its host of restaurants, bars, shops and its marina. The area around Madreterra is also ideal for walking as is most of the island's interior: with mountains rising to over 1100m, there is some truly beautiful scenery and a scattering of unspoiled villages where the way of life remains profoundly connected to the island's ancient traditions and customs.
Lefkada measures 35km from its northern tip to the dramatic white cliffs of Cape Lefkatas in the south and just 15km from east to west. This being the case, it is relatively easy to explore in a week (if you can pull yourselves away from the views and pool of the villa!). At its northern point the island is connected to mainland Greece by a floating bridge and, via frequent ferry services from the ports of Nidri and Vasiliki, to several of the other islands of the Ionian archipelago (including nearby Meganissi), making it eminently possible to travel further afield.

Boat trips in Lefkada
The azure, transparent waters of the Ionian Sea are a real attraction and the varied coastline boasts a host of sandy beaches, secluded pebbly coves and dramatic white cliffs, such as those of Cape Lefkatas on the southernmost tip. Most beaches can be reached by car and a walk, though a few are only accessed via sea, a good excuse for hiring a boat for a day or two.
DiscoverBoat trips in Meganisi
The north of Meganissi is home to a seemingly endless array of dreamy bays with transparent blue waters, golden beaches, and emerald pinewoods. The best way to explore them is by boat, and you have two options: either rent your own with the help of our Local Concierges (they know all the best people); or let our experienced Specialists arrange a day or two on board one of our skippered charters. The sense of freedom you experience from cruising around, dropping anchor, and diving into the irresistible sea is like nothing else.
DiscoverBoat rental in Lefkada
A holiday in the sun would not be complete without exploring the breath-taking coastline, majestic cliffs and glistening azure sea that your destination has to offer. The best way to experience this spectacle is from your very own rental boat, pottering along at a leisurely pace and occasionally stopping off to drop anchor and swim in secluded bays.

Our stay at Madreterra was magical! The house and grounds were absolutely spectacular. What stood out was the location! The views were absolutely incredible. It was isolated enough that you weren't always surrounded by people, but close enough that you could walk to the beach or take a short drive to get into town and pick up a few things.

One of the best villa holidays I’ve ever been on. Madreterra is amazing - it has everything you could want for a summer getaway in Greece. The views over the Med are incredible, especially at sunset. A short walk down the hill to the beach. The kitchen, living room and bedrooms are comfortable and stylish with top notch fixtures and fittings. The infinity pool is perfect for kids and ideal temp to cool off on a hot day. The outdoor space is perfect for dinners and evening drinks - the bbq area is immaculate - a genuine pleasure cooking al fresco.
