L’Aplana is a lovely villa in a wonderful setting. We had a wonderful and relaxing two-week stay. The villa is very comfortable and in a remote setting with the most beautiful view.

About the property
Inside
accommodation at L’Alpana is all on one level. The front door takes one into an open-plan space with living area, a dining table and a well-equipped kitchen. Two sets of sliding glass doors bring in the stunning views and open out onto the surrounding terraces.A corridor leads from the living area, past the shared WC to the sleeping quarters, comprising a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with tub (but no WC), and a twin bedroom with en-suite shower room (without WC). The atmosphere throughout is bright, homely and welcoming.
Outside
with its stone-clad walls and reclaimed wooden lintels, L’Alpana seems organically linked the surrounding trees and granite rocks that delimit and sometimes encroach on the garden.To the front of the house, looking out over the surrounding hills, the coastline, the sea and even Sardinia, is the main terrace, a shady affair accessed from the communal living areas and home to a dining table and a comfy sitting area. Around one side of the house, accessed from the kitchen, is another terrace, this time equipped with a breakfast table and a built-in barbecue.
A wooden boardwalk leads from the main terrace to a trio of stone steps, at the bottom of which is the lovely decked pool area. The spellbinding views from within and around the pool are as stunning as those from the main terrace.
About the Area
Perched in a secluded, supremely panoramic position in the wooded hills above Corsica's south coast, L'Alpana is ideal for those who wish to relax in a rural setting while being in close proximity to a series of beautiful beaches. Indeed, a quick 10-minute drive will take you down to the idyllic sandy bays of Plage de Figari and La Tonnara, while a host of other beaches are within a 20-minute drive.
A must-see for anyone staying at L'Alpana is Bonifacio, one of Corsica's most dramatically positioned and picturesque towns. Teetering perilously on a high cliff above the sea it offers sublime views over to Sardinia (as does L'Alpana itself) and some good restaurants and bars.
Less than an hour's drive northwest is the panoramically positioned, medieval town of Sartène, whose pretty labyrinth of streets gives an idea of Corsican life away from the coastline.
Heading up the east coast one comes to a series of delightful beaches, including those of Santa Giulia, Tamaricciu and Palombaggia, and Porto Vecchio, another of Corsica's many charming towns, offering a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants and a nice old town centre looking over the large natural harbour.
Further afield on the west coast is the island's capital, Ajaccio, which is well worth a visit, not least so you can say that you've been to the birthplace of the great Napoleon.
Considerations
You may also wish to know that the pool has a single depth of 1.4m.
The final part of the track leading up to L'Alpana is quite rough and so we recommend guests hire a 4x4 or at least a car with high ground clearance.

L'Alpana's a most amazing little hilltop paradise, with the most wonderful far-reaching views. I don't think there can be many places like this left. The views stretched out across the rocky hills and uninterrupted maquis to the coast. It has a lovely little pool, and it's a beautifully designed and clearly loved house which sat with total authenticity in its surroundings.
